Identify your purchase
Registration, transfer and renewal are different purchases. A registration offer is for a domain you are registering. A transfer moves an existing registration between registrars. A renewal extends the registration with its current registrar. A code advertised for one purchase type should not be assumed to work for another.
Check the exact domain and conditions
Start by identifying your task and the exact domain extension. Then check the offer terms for account eligibility, the eligible registration term and any exclusions. Premium domains, bulk purchases and additional services can have different pricing or conditions. If the source does not explain a restriction, treat it as unknown rather than inventing a rule.
Compare the full cost
Compare like with like: the same extension, currency, number of years and purchase type. Read the renewal price separately from an introductory price. Include taxes and any applicable fees in your comparison. A cheap first year does not establish a lower cost over the time you plan to keep the domain.
Before transferring a domain
If you are moving an existing domain, review the receiving registrar's transfer process and the current domain status before paying. An offer does not establish transfer eligibility. For a domain approaching expiration, consult the registrar's current instructions instead of assuming a promotion extends a deadline.
Use Hey Codes to check the source
On Hey Codes, open a merchant's page and check the official source to determine whether an offer applies to registration, transfer or renewal. Compare those terms with your order before paying. Only the merchant can confirm whether your selected domain and account qualify.
Quick comparison
| Purchase | What you are doing | Check before comparing offers |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | Registering a domain | Exact ending, registration term and later renewal price |
| Transfer | Moving an existing domain between registrars | Domain status, transfer eligibility and the receiving registrar's terms |
| Renewal | Extending the current registration | Renewal price, period and the offer's stated purchase type |
A longer-term cost example
Illustration only, not a merchant quote: a $5 first year followed by two $12 renewals costs $29 before fees. An alternative with $9 registration and two $9 renewals costs $27. Compare the same ending, currency and number of years; the lowest first-year price is not always the lowest total.
Merchant offers and official references
Compare current source listings for Namecheap, Spaceship, Dynadot and Porkbun. If no current reviewed code is available, the merchant's pricing can still include a code-free promotion.
Use the official Porkbun price list to see separate purchase types. Check the receiving registrar's official instructions for transfer eligibility. Read how to copy and check a code before buying. This guide is maintained by Hey Codes, operated by Muma Tech; it does not confirm the eligibility of any individual domain.
